Netify classifies applications as any type of Internet service a user may knowingly (or unknowingly) be using from their networked-enabled device. Many applications tunnel through HTTPS or HTTP protocols, leaving an administrator to guess at the specific nature and desirability of a network flow.
Netify takes the guesswork out of the equation by identifying applications using deep packet inspection (DPI), DNS and SSL certificate inspection.
The Netify development team is hard at work improving this area of the nDPI engine and contributing the changes back to the project. Once done, web and application detection can be dynamically updated outside the nDPI/Netify binary and re-loadable, allowing the Netify cloud to feed updates over web services to improve detection and classification. We're really excited about this new improvement - more news to come!
