Malware is a catch-all term that includes computer viruses, ransomware, spyware, trojans and worms. The most prevalent pathway onto a computer is through the network, and as such, once a source for the malware is known, it can be identified and blocked.
Netify's Malware Detection feature adds another layer of protection to your network by maintaining a database of sites and IP addresses known for hosting malware, serving up phishing sites, being sources of spam and other attacks ranging from annoying to nefarious.
One of the issues with signature or source-based malware protection is that it offers little protection against malware that may have been downloaded prior to being classified. Since Netify maintains a history of all flow activity, the service can detect events from the past where malware was not known at the time, but now is. This "point in time" inspection does not help prevent malware from being installed at the time it was unknown, however, it can and does help administrators and business owners by alerting them to the full extent the spread of the malware and take appropriate action.
